Market 2048 — Rules and Strategy
Not a game about growing numbers — a game about selling. Merge tiles on a 4×4 board and that grade's price swings. Sell it at the top and hit a ₩1,000 net-worth target within 120 turns.
The one-line version
Ordinary 2048 is about how big you can grow a number. Market 2048 is about when you cash it out. The tile's face value (2, 4, 8… up to 4096) is only the starting point — what you actually get paid is face value × that grade's live price multiplier.
Core rules
- The board is 4×4, and merging works like ordinary 2048. Slide with arrow keys or a swipe; matching tiles combine into the next power of two.
- Every grade carries its own independent price. 2, 4, 8… each has its own market stage, 0 through 5: CRASH ×0.5, WEAK ×1, FLAT ×2, BULL ×3, SURGE ×5, MOON ×8. The live ticker above the board shows every grade's current stage.
- Sell price is face value × price multiplier. An identical 8-tile can be worth ₩4 while its grade is CRASHing, or ₩64 while it's on the MOON. Same number, up to 8× the payout, purely from timing.
- Selling costs one turn. Tap a tile to see its live quote, then hit sell to bank the cash. It costs a turn like a normal move, but no new tile spawns. You cannot sell your last remaining tile.
- The market closes after 120 turns. Whatever tiles are still on the board get force-liquidated at their closing price and added to your cash. Total assets ≥ ₩1,000 at closing means you win; anything less is a loss.
Why (and how) the market moves
Every turn, every grade's price on the board updates. A MOON grade (×8) always crashes to CRASH (×0.5) the very next turn — no exceptions. A SURGE grade (×5) has a 20% chance each turn of spiking straight to MOON; if it doesn't, its overheat timer ticks down, and when that expires there's a 60% chance it crashes and a 40% chance it cools to BULL. Grades below that (CRASH through BULL) take a random walk: 22% chance to step up a stage, 22% chance to step down, otherwise unchanged. And critically — merging into a grade of 8 or higher gives that grade a 60% chance of stepping up a stage, so your own merges are pushing that grade's price up. Neighboring grades (one stage apart in rank) also have a 50% chance of moving together with a surging or crashing grade — sympathy moves. On top of that, each turn there's a 14% chance a "forecast" news item appears, flagging a grade for a surge 2–3 turns out (70% it hits, 20% it fizzles, 10% it betrays you and crashes instead).
Strategy
1. Don't always chase MOON off a SURGE — sell some early
A SURGE grade only has a 20% chance per turn of spiking to MOON, and if it doesn't, there's a 60% chance it crashes outright once its timer runs out. Holding out for the ×8 isn't automatically the better expected value. If several grades surge at once, sell some immediately and only gamble on MOON with the rest.
2. Use the fact that your own merges push prices up
Merging into a grade of 8 or higher has a 60% chance of bumping that grade's price a stage. If you already know which grade you plan to sell, merging into it one more time before selling creates that upward chance yourself — that beats just waiting.
3. Watch the neighbors of a surging grade
When a grade surges or crashes, the grade one stage above or below it has a 50% chance of moving the same direction. If 8 surges, check 4 and 16 on the ticker too — you can catch your next sale a turn earlier.
4. Treat forecast news as a 70% signal, not a guarantee
A forecast means a 70% chance that grade surges in 2–3 turns — but 20% of the time it fizzles, and 10% of the time it crashes instead. Don't neglect your other grades while you wait on a forecast; always keep a backup sale ready in case it misses.
5. Ignore the price and liquidate as the close approaches
Once 20 turns remain, the close counter switches to a warning state. When the 120th turn hits, whatever's left on the board gets force-liquidated at whatever price it happens to be at that instant. Closing while a grade is mid-CRASH locks in that loss for you — late in the run, cashing out even at a mediocre price is often safer than holding for a recovery that may not arrive in time.
6. Don't sell the same grade back to back
Every sale pushes that grade's price down a stage — sell pressure. Selling the same grade twice in a row means your second sale happens at an already-depressed price. Spreading sales across different grades gives each one time to recover between sales.
FAQ
Does the puzzle change every day?
No. There is no date-based seed — it's pure freeplay. You can start a new run any time, and every run randomizes tile spawns and price movement fresh.
Do I need an account?
No. Nothing to install and nothing to sign up for — you can play immediately.
Where is my progress stored?
In your browser only. It is never sent to a server — including your best-ever cash record and your language choice.
Is there an undo?
No. Every move and every sale is final.
How do I win?
When the market closes after 120 turns, if your total assets — cash on hand plus every remaining tile force-liquidated at its closing price — are ₩1,000 or more, you win.
Can I sell my last remaining tile?
No. The sell button is disabled once only one tile is left on the board. You always need at least two.
